Full Disclosure: I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post. The opinions are completely my own.
Yes, I realize that Madison is filled to the brim with local restaurants. But sometimes, I just want to go somewhere fairly inexpensive, easy, and familiar.
Old Chicago is somewhere that we used to go quite often – but hadn’t been in a while – so we decided to check it out again. Their menu is huge, so we often go there when we can’t decide what kind of food we want to eat. They have everything from salads, wraps, and sandwiches to burgers, pizza and wings. They also have quite an extensive drink menu, including a “Beer Tour” option.
After much debate, I chose a grilled chicken sandwich and a side salad for dinner.
The husband had pepperoni and pineapple pizza.
I was kind of disappointed in my food choice.
I realize I did get my chicken sandwich plain. (It is supposed to be plain, that is not an error on their part.) It just didn’t taste all that great. The chicken was edging on burnt and the bun was like something I could pick up at a gas station. The salad didn’t taste bad – but it was tiny. I’m pretty sure I ate it in four bites.
The husband’s pizza, on the other hand, looked pretty delicious. It was probably more done than it should have been, but definitely still edible. I didn’t have any of it myself, but there were no complaints from him, so I’m assuming it was pretty good.
We’ve been to Old Chicago multiple times before, and I don’t ever remember the food being this poor. Maybe they were just having an off day? Who knows.
Taste: C, I did still eat it, but it was not very good. I’ve been here many other times and had better food, so hopefully this was just a fluke.
Cost: B, it was kind of expensive, considering what we got, but really it wasn’t bad at all for a kind of nicer sit down restaurant.
Would I go there again? Yes. Their menu is huge, and has something for everyone. Even though this experience was not the greatest, I have had better food there in the past, so I will definitely give them a try again.
