Full Disclosure: I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post. The opinions are completely my own.
It should be no surprise to you that I like noodles. A lot. In fact, often when I am asked what my favorite food is, the answer is noodles. (or bagels) When it was suggested that we go to a Japanese noodle restaurant for dinner, I was definitely excited. We ended up going to Asahi Ramen.
Some things to know about this restaurant before we get to the food.
First: yes, they do have a restroom – but it is one stall in an alleyway around the back of the building. No I’m not lying. I am glad that we were not there when it was dark, because I don’t think I would have wanted to venture back there to go to the bathroom by myself.
Second: They only take cash. This isn’t a huge deal, but definitely something to remember before you go.
As for the food, it was my first time at a Japanese noodle style restaurant, and I was definitely impressed. It really was like fancy, more complex ramen noodles. And I mean that as a compliment – my love for noodles draws no lines.
For dinner, I got the Tanmen which is basically ramen noodles and veggies in a broth. (beef maybe?)
There is literally a salad piled on top of this soup. And then there is like a pound of noodles. It is SO much food. But it was delicious! Unfortunately when it came out it was steaming hot, so it was hard for me to eat at first, but it was definitely good!
The husband had the Chashu Ramen which was similar to mine except with a soy sauce based broth and pork.
He really liked the soy sauce based broth, but I thought it was too salty tasting and definitely enjoyed mine more.
Overall, even though the restaurant was small, the food definitely packed a punch!
Taste: A+, very delicious! And not to mention lots of food.
Cost: A, it really was reasonable, especially considering the amount of food that you get!
Would I go there again? Yeah I think so – this time with a bigger appetite!
