Full Disclosure: I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post. The opinions are completely my own.
One of the things on my to-do list for California was to visit with my friend Leah and check out the yarn shop that she works at. So, one day I drove down to 3rd Street to meet her for some yarn shopping and lunch.
Side note: You all should definitely go check out Leah’s blog and Etsy Shop. She is such a talented artist and I LOVE the knit and crocheted items that she is making right now!
3rd street is filled with lots of food options, and they all looked so good it was hard to decide! We chose Doughboys because it was very close to the yarn shop, and Leah had only good things to say about the food. The menu there is HUGE. Luckily Leah had some favorites that she suggested otherwise I think it would have taken me a LONG time to decided what I was going to have.
I ordered the After School Special – grilled cheese sandwich made with our butter toasted french pan de mie bread, filled with gooey emmanthal, white cheddar, and fontina cheese. it’s served with a big bowl of yummy creamy tomato soup.
It was SO good. The sandwich was awesome (oh, and if you are counting, this is the third time I’ve eaten grilled cheese in CA) the bread, cheese and everything was great. The soup was good as well. I’m not a huge fan of chunky soup, but this was actually really good! It was a lot more flavorful than most tomato soups I’ve had.
Leah had the Back to School Mac and Cheese – mac & cheese with freshly cooked elbow macaroni noodles blended perfectly with freshly melted cheese sauce (no imitation here) and we serve it up with our focacia bread. It looked delicious, and Leah said it tasted good as well! Unfortunately my camera ate the photo (or something) so I don’t have a photo for this. But it does look like cheesy noodle goodness!
Taste: A, everything about it was very good – cheese, bread and soup.
Cost: A-, it was a little bit expensive for a soup and sandwich, but it was a big portion of food.
Would I go there again? Yeah, I think so. The menu is so large that there are definitely other things that I’d want to try!
