Believe it or not, it has been one whole year since I started blogging at Brownies and Zucchini. My first post on June 26, 2010 was about Tina’s (Carrots N Cake) Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. In that post, I also declared that this blog would be about trying new foods – even if it was just a bite. I set my goal as posting about one new recipe per week. The recipes that I started with happened to be from the Thinkfood Cookbook that (at the time) hadn’t been released yet, but was sending out weekly emails with new recipes. It seemed like a perfect way to start!
So, every week I would be on the lookout for the recipe, buy the ingredients, and make it sometime that week. Or at least it sounded like that is how it would work in theory. A few weeks went by and encountered several recipes that I wasn’t sure about. Some of those I made anyways (and just hoped my husband would eat them) and some I just “saved for later.” Well, life happened, and some of those recipes have not been made yet. I’m not giving up on making them, but through blogging/Twitter etc I have discovered so many more sources for recipes that I don’t need to rely on only those anymore!
A few months in, my blogging became more consistent and I started to really enjoy writing about food. Since then I have started to do Restaurant Reviews, and even some product reviews. I have found that wanting to write about things makes me want to cook more and eat more diverse and interesting things. (You all would be bored out of your mind if I blogged about Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, Spaghetti and Frozen Pizza every week. And so would I)
In the past year, blogging has taught me not only to diversify my meal choices, but I have gained friends in the process. And I’m not talking like “I follow you on Twitter” kind of friends. I mean like actual people who I would love to hang out with in real life and talk/twitter/email with on a regular basis, send birthday gifts to, and even come visit when I happen to be in their part of the country. 🙂
I honestly cannot thank you all enough for helping to make this little blog what it is today. Even though it is not huge by any means, I still appreciate you stopping by to see what I have to say. Without you, this blog would just be me rambling to myself about how I don’t like bacon and peanut butter and my love of bread. And noodles. And brownies.
Anyways.
I thought in honor of my blogiversary I would share the love. Each of you that read, comment, tweet, etc. make me smile on a daily basis, so I hope I can do the same for you! I’ve decided to give away a couple of things that I love. Who doesn’t like a fun giveaway?
Here is what I have to give:
3 beautiful bowls that would be perfect for a scoop or two of ice cream, fruit, or some other side dish. Yes they are from Anthropologie. I will admit that not everything at Anthropologie is inexpensive, but holy crap is it all cute. One of the other random fun facts that I love about that store is that they hire local artists to do their window displays! I love that this gives a unique look to every store – and it gives a job to a local artist!
Thank You Notes by Jimmy Fallon. If you do not know about the Thank You Notes skit that Jimmy Fallon does on his Late Night show every Friday, you need to look it up on youtube and watch it. This book is collection of many of the notes that he has done on the show. It is super funny and I am a huge fan on his!
Here is how you can enter to win (please leave a separate comment for each entry) :
1) Comment on this post with one blog that you are loving right now and why you love it. I’m always looking for new blogs to read – food, healthy living, Madison, Disney, crafty, whatever. Give your favorite blog a shout out!
2) Follow me on Twitter (@kellynigl) and leave a comment telling me you do.
3) “Like” Brownies and Zucchini on Facebook and leave a comment telling me you do.
You have until Midnight (CST) on Thursday June 30 to enter, I will pick a random winner Friday morning. The winner has been chosen, thanks to all that entered!
Good Luck! I’m looking forward to lots of fun new blogs to read!
Full Disclosure: I bought these gifts for you with my own money, and I was not reimbursed in any way for showing them on the blog.

One blog that I’ve been liking lately is http://sugarcoatedsisters.com/ , written by two sisters living healthy lifestyles and mixing it up with a lot of other fun stuff.
