Crispy Sweet and Sour Tofu

Recently, I have been a huge fan of tofu as my dinner protein.  A couple of years ago, I never would have thought this would be a dinner of choice, but I’m pretty happy that it is.

Many people say, “if you think you don’t like tofu, it is only because you haven’t had it cooked properly.”  I now whole heartedly agree with this statement.  I’ve had good tofu, and not great tofu.  This recipe, is deliciously good tofu.  The recipe comes from a site called Vegan Yum Yum.  So, yes, this is a vegan recipe if you follow the ingredients list exactly.  However, we did use regular eggs instead of the egg replacer, so our version is not so vegan.  But I can’t imagine it would be any worse by making the vegan version.  You can find the recipe here.

Crispy Sweet and Sour Tofu

I loved every thing about this recipe.

First of all: Fried Tofu.  SO GOOD.

The sauce: delicious.  Sweet, but not over the top.  I really like how with this recipe, you add the cornstarch to thicken the sauce after everything else is all dissolved together rather than just with everything else.  This made the sauce smoother and thicker than a lot of others that I have made.

We also added rice, veggies, chow mein noodles and peanuts just to fill out the meal a little bit more.  So good, and just as good as leftovers!

Ease: B+, the actual breading and frying of the tofu does take some time and patience, but other than that it was not too difficult.
Taste: A+, very delicious.

Would I make it again? Yes, in fact I have made it more than once already.
