Salmon Burgers

So, a few years ago, a Costco opened in Middleton – literally minutes from where I live.  Of course there was a huge hype about this warehouse sized store and the first few opening days were packed with people.

We were some of those people.  Although we debated it for a long time – since its not exactly pocket change to be a member –  we decided to go for it and get a membership.

We don’t visit Costco all that often, on average we go probably once a month.  When we do go though, I find that I am either overwhelmed with the billions of things there are or I want EVERYTHING.  The last time we went, we wandered around a little bit, but didn’t stray too far from what we usually buy.  Until the infamous “what’s for dinner?” question was asked. At that point the husband said to me “we can’t leave here until we know what we’re having for dinner.” So we headed over to the meat and deli section to try to find something that we would like – but hopefully not too large of a portion that we will be eating the same thing for the next week.  (I know. It’s Costco, what was I thinking?)  I am not a huge meat eater, and honestly raw red meat in particular tends to gross me out.  I am starting to become more of a fan of fish though, so we picked up some salmon for dinner.  What were we making for dinner? Who knows, but it would be something with salmon!

After scouring the internet for options, I landed on a recipe for salmon burgers that sounded different, but not too difficult.  You can find the recipe here.  It is by Paula Deen, so I was hoping for something quality but not super complicated.

We left out the peppers and we did not make the Sesame Mayonnaise.  We also cut the recipe in half since we were only feeding the two of us, not the army that the recipe appears to feed.

Salmon BurgersOverall the recipe was a bit time consuming, but not really difficult. We ended up adding almost twice as many bread crumbs as suggested because our burgers seemed to be very wet.

Salmon Burgers

I didn’t love these, but they were pretty good. Just like when I made turkey burgers a while back, I think it is just the texture that I am unsure about. The flavor wasn’t bad though.  I didn’t know what to expect with the soy sauce and sesame oil in there, but it definitely added something that didn’t make it seem fishy at all.

Ease: B, there is a lot of chopping and mixing and such, but none of it is really difficult, just time consuming.
Taste: B+, I just don’t know how I feel about the ground meat type texture, but the Asian inspired flavor was good.

Would I make them again?  Hmmm, I’m not sure.  I know that the husband liked them quite a bit so we’ll see.  Maybe I’ll make his a burger and mine a filet 🙂

  1. i bought pre made salmon burgers at the store before and i actually like them better than salmon filets! don’t think i could attempt to make them myself, though!

    • You could totally make these! It really is the same as making any other kind of burger, you just have to chop up the fish. I also saw some recipes using canned salmon if you wanted to go that route it would be easier.

  2. My husband and I just purchased a costco membership last weekend. I’m a little too excited 😀 My father in law gets the best cheesecake and cheese from there, which seems weird since it’s a warehouse and all. I’m excited for all of the free samples!
