Full Disclosure: I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post. The opinions are completely my own.
I’m not a fan of hamburgers. I’m not entirely sure how this came about since I think I’ve only had a few bites of one in my life that I can remember. Maybe it started out as the texture, and now it is the fact that it is ground beef? I don’t know. Either way, I’m not a fan of beefy burgers. Luckily, I do eat chicken. In fact, I am a pretty big fan of chicken sandwiches – both the grilled and breaded variety.
Red Robin is known for their burgers. A few years ago they opened a couple of locations in and around Madison. I was skeptical that I would enjoy their food at first since their pride is their burgers, and often when that is the case everything else on the menu is not nearly up to par. After I visited the first time, my mind was changed. Basically everything that I’ve had on their menu has been well cooked and delicious. The husband would tell you that the burgers are delicious as well.
Whenever we go, the husband always orders the Freckled Lemonade – lemonade with fresh strawberries. I’ve had this before too and I think it is good, but usually just order water. He really enjoys the lemonade’s flavor, and the fact that it is bottomless!
We generally don’t start out with any appetizers when we go to Red Robin since the fries are bottomless so if for some reason our meal doesn’t fill us up we can always get more. However, the husband does love their onion rings – but ordering a large towering stack of them doesn’t generally seem worth it when only one person is going to be eating them.
The last time we went we noticed a few new things had been added to the menu. One of them is basically a build-your-own appetizer sampler. The difference between this and other appetizer platters is that there is an option for ordering only 1 or 2 servings! The husband was very excited that he could finally have a single serving of onion rings. I checked out this new menu feature and realized that there was now something that I wanted to try on there as well – fried zucchini!
This appetizer option was pretty perfect, and the zucchini was delicious! It was only lightly fried and they were sliced thickly so they definitely tasted like zucchini. Win!
For my entree I had a crispy chicken sandwich and fries. (My usual) It was delicious as always . The fries are always fresh and delicious tasting and the chicken was crispy and juicy.
The husband had the Whiskey River BBQ Burger - BBQ Sauce together with Cheddar cheese, crispy onion straws, lettuce, and fresh tomatoes. This is one of the burgers that he regularly gets and loves.
The service was good and the food was delicious. I’m glad that years ago I didn’t let the fact that they were known for burgers stop me from trying this restaurant.
I should also note that with both locations that are near Madison, I’ve found that the parking lots seem to get full rather quickly. Don’t let this make you think that the restaurant is full. The only time I’ve had to wait at either place is when I was with a group larger than 4 and it was at 5:30pm on a Friday Night. And even then I don’t think that we waited more than 30 minutes before we got a table. I’m not sure how they fit as many people as they do, but they do it well!
Taste: A+, one of my favorite chicken sandwiches and fries by far.
Cost: A, pretty much what you would expect from a burger joint – my Chicken Sandwich and fries was $9.59.
Would I go there again? Definitely. Although, both of the locations are on the other side of town from where I live so we don’t make it over very often. But that is probably a good thing
