I’m not sure what exactly qualifies something as a blondie as opposed to a brownie, or a cookie bar. Is it just that it doesn’t use cocoa powder so it has a light brown color rather than a dark brown color? Is it texture? In any case, I would call these more of cookie bars rather than brownies, but the name really doesn’t matter.
Side note: These treats were made for my dear friend Alli who is currently 33+ weeks pregnant with TWIN girls! (I think her husband ate a few too) Go check out her blog and send good thoughts her way for a relaxing next few weeks and an easy, natural delivery when the day comes!
These were simple enough that I had everything I would need already on hand but still a little bit of a twist from generic chocolate chip cookie bars. They are from Bran Appetit, and you can find the recipe here. I haven’t spent too much time on Brandi’s site yet, but I already have a bunch of things that I want to make! You will definitely see more from Bran Appetit in the future.
These were pretty good. They did taste a little different than normal chocolate chip cookie bars, which is what I was hoping for. I am definitely not a pro at browning butter though, so that aspect may have been a tiny bit burnt…..the blondies did not taste burnt, but my burners are so cranky that it was once it started to brown it went fast. Next time I will hopefully have better luck with the browning.
Ease: B, the browning is a little tricky, but after that it is easy.
Taste: A- I didn’t love them, but they were good, and definitely a step up from normal chocolate chip bars.
Would I make them again? I’m not sure. I don’t know that they are different enough, or delicious enough for me to need to make them again.
