Restaurant Review: California Pizza Kitchen – Hollywood, CA

Full Disclosure:  I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post.  The opinions are completely my own.

As you may or may not have already realized, I was back in Los Angeles for a few days last week.  Since one of the things that I love so much about that city is the food, I thought I’d share my food experiences with you….even if it is over a week later….

When we landed in Los Angeles we were all hungry.  The time change was confusing as to weather our bodies wanted lunch or dinner, but either way, we needed food.  Have I mentioned before that I get cranky if I don’t eat for a long period of time?  I do.  Just ask my family members.

Luckily, this time we were staying right in the heart of Hollywood so there were many food options to choose from!  After a bit of wandering, we decided on California Pizza Kitchen.  Yes, CPK is a chain, but it is one of my favorites.  We’ve gone many times to the location in Chicago as well.  Since Chicago is the closest location to Madison I still feels like a nice treat when we are on vacation.

CPK used to have my favorite pizza of all time: Rosemary Chicken and Roasted Potato.  Unfortunately a few years ago they discontinued it.  Good thing there are other delicious options on the menu as well!

This time, since we were so hungry, we started off with an appetizer.  We usually don’t do this since the pizzas are definitely large and filling, but we were with a group of people so we figured we could share it and still have room for our meals.  And really, when you see Crispy Mac and Cheese (classic mac ‘n’ cheese lightly fried with panko served on a creamy cheese sauce) on the menu, how can you resist?

Mac and Cheese Bites

These were SO good.  They were rich, so it was good that we had people to share them with, but they were delicious.  The breading was the perfect amount, and the insides tasted just like macaroni and cheese, not just a gooey glob and cheese like I kind of expected it to be.  I definitely need to figure out how to recreate these at home!

The husband got the Hawaiian Pizza as his entree.  He said it was good, but not as great as others that he has had.  (He is a big fan of the Thai Chicken Pizza.)

For my entree, I had the White Pizza – Mozzarella, Fontina, Ricotta, Parmesan, Pecorino Romano and Sauteed Garlic and Spinach.  It was SO good.  I can’t remember where it was that I had spinach on pizza recently before this, but I’m definitely a fan.  It gives it an extra oomph, and makes it seem less like I am just ordering a cheese pizza. 🙂

Overall the meal was delicious.  Everyone enjoyed their pizza (and of course the Mac ‘N’ Cheese bites) and some even had leftovers to take home for a snack later.  CPK really is one of my favorite pizza places.  It isn’t super greasy, the crust is always cooked perfectly, and they have interesting toppings.  (My favorite stand-by pizza there is the Roasted Garlic Chicken)  Even if you aren’t in the mood for pizza, they do have quite an extensive menu of other items as well.  I haven’t tried any of them yet, but I’m sure they are just as good!

Taste: A+, one of my favorite chain restaurants to go out to eat.
Cost: A, even though it is a bit more expensive than other pizza chains, the personal size pizzas are definitely two servings worth – and the toppings always taste (and look) fresh and delicious.

Would I go there again?  Absolutely.  In fact, I’m kind of surprised that it has taken me this long to write about it in the first place!

  1. There’s a CPK in the mall where I work but I’ve never been and always wondered about it. I might need to check it out now. 🙂

    • Do it. You will not be disappointed. They have such a huge variety, there is bound to be something delicious that you’d like! 🙂
