Oh, another macaroni and cheese recipe. I’m getting so predictable aren’t I? 🙂
This one I found originally on Pinterest. Everyone was raving about how simple and easy it was, so I had to try it. You can find the recipe here.
This recipe appears so easy, in fact, that it is a bit deceiving. There are only 5 ingredients. Two of those ingredients are spices. It has to be super easy right? Well, for me at least, this recipe was not so easy. Boiling noodles in milk instead of water sounds easy and convenient until you realize that you absolutely can not let the milk actually boil or if burns. You also have to stir it pretty much constantly or the same thing happens. I definitely burnt it on the first try because I had totally underestimated how easy it would be.
In the end, it was good, but I’m not sure it was worth the effort. It wasn’t super flavorful (which I suppose isn’t surprising since it only has 5 ingredients) and I didn’t love it. I would much rather spend the time making something a bit more complicated but aslo more delicious!
Ease: B-, I was not expecting it to be as difficult as it was…..or maybe I’m just bad at boiling milk.
Taste: B, not super flavorful and not great.
Would I make it again? I don’t think so. There are other recipes that I’d much rather take the time to make.

Hmm, when you first said boil the pasta in milk, I thought, wow, interesting! But I can see how that could get messy/yucky quickly. Good to know!
I know, I thought the same thing! It is definitely more complicated than the recipe leads you to believe.
I saw this on pinterest as well and added it to my “to make some day” recipe list. I am so happy you made it and warned me about the milk situation!
I’m so sorry it didn’t turn out as good as you thought it would. Maybe if you make it again try adding in diced tomatoes or broccoli or even some jalapeno to amp up the flavor.
No worries! Next time if I make it I’ll definitely add something to it to give it a little more oomph.
P.S. I love the name of your blog 🙂
Thanks!:)
oh i saw this and was so excited to try it! now not so much….thanks for the review. i love making a bit more elaborate and flavorful mac & cheese recipes, so i think i might skip this one….
Yeah, I’d say you’re better off making another one…..or adding some substance to this one. ….or maybe I’m just bad at boiling milk, and yours would turn out perfectly fine 🙂
Hmmm…not sure how well “cooking pasta in milk” will work? Maybe add a pinch of salt to the milk, so it will increase the milk’s boiling point so it does not overflow too badly. Here are a few tricks to kick up the flavor. Scrap the mustard, use a bit of dry mustard and nutmeg. Also use 1/4 block of low fat cream cheese.
Oooh cream cheese, I never thought of that!
