Product Review: Simply Potatoes

Full Disclosure: I received these potatoes for free through the Foodbuzz Tastemakers Program.  Even though they paid for it, these are completely my own opinions.

Potatoes are one of my favorite foods.  Mashed, baked, twice baked with lobster, french fried, etc.  I love them.  One of the things that I don’t like about potatoes: they take a LONG time to cook.  When I was asked by Foodbuzz and Simply Potatoes if I wanted to try some of their potatoes, I was excited! Real potatoes cut up and pre-packaged sounded like just what I needed to add to my healthy dinner routine.

When I got to the store to buy the potatoes, I was excited to see so many options! Multiple varieties of hash browns, multiple styles of mashed potatoes, red potatoes, sweet potatoes, and more.  I was actually a bit overwhelmed with what I would choose! I ended up choosing the Red Potato Wedges.

Simply Potatoes

To prepare my potatoes, I put them on a cookie sheet and baked them as suggested.  But before I put them in the oven, I sprinkled some of the Italian Blend Garlic Gold on them to give them a little extra flavor.

[Major Blogger Fail because I don’t actually have a photo of the finished product. 🙁 ]

They turned out really well!  They were definitely real potato (not that I was doubting, but you never know how pre-packaged things will taste sometimes) and very tasty.  They would be a good, simple addition to a dinner!

OR – a brilliant idea that I just thought of – you could use them to make these delicious roasted potatoes with cheese and some other things.

One of the things that I really enjoy about these potatoes is that although there are many different already seasoned varieties, you can also buy the plain potatoes (as I did) and season them however you would like.  For someone like me who is picky about seasonings and flavors, but also short on time, these seem like a pretty great solution to make dinner easier.

Taste: A, they definitely taste real, and I love that you can buy an unseasoned variety that you can add your own ideas to.
Cost: A, I don’t remember exactly how much they were in stores, but I think it was around $3.  That is pretty reasonable for a pre-packaged healthy product if you ask me.  Not to mention you get quite a few servings out of one bag!

Would I buy them again? I think so!  I would buy these exact potatoes again, and I would like to try some of the hash brown varieties that they make as well.  Those seem like they would be an even bigger time saver if they tasted just as good!

On another potato related note, Julie just did some experiments with using different varieties of potatoes to make the perfect baked potato.  I thought it was interesting what she found…and it also kind of made me crave baked potatoes….go to Savvy Eats and check it out! (here)

In other news: My USB cable to connect my camera to my computer appears to have disappeared sometime in between uploading photos of my friends’ babies and putting up our Christmas tree, and now. (the above photo is courtesy of my iPhone) I’m pretty sure my couch ate it.  Or it got mixed in with the extra christmas tree lights.  If I don’t find it in the very near future, I will have to break down and buy a new one, there is no way I could live without it! 🙁

If you were my USB cable, where would you be???!!

  1. If I were your USB cable I would have ended up with my old Cell charger. And that’s the Bermuda triangle right now. 🙂

    Hope you find it.

  2. I love Simply Potatoes! Their hashbrowns are great because I’m too lazy to shred potatoes.
