Five iPhone Apps I’m Loving

Yesterday Katy Widrick posted a ton of awesome apps that she loves for her iPhone.  Instead of commenting on her post, I thought I’d share a few here.  Since there are SO many – and I would be repeating quite a few that she already mentioned, I thought I’d try to limit myself to five.  We’ll see if I can do that.  🙂

  1. Starbucks
    Starbucks AppStarbucks App
I love this app because it is so multifunctional – and I am slightly addicted to Starbucks.  With this app you can find a location near you, check your Starbucks Card balance, find out how many calories are in the beverage you are drinking (with customization!) and more!  You can also use to app to actually pay if you have it set up with your Starbucks card.  I love knowing that if somehow I forget my wallet at home I have this as a backup.
  2. ESPN ScoreCenter
ESPN AppI have used other sports score apps in the past, and there are a few reasons why I like this one more than others.  The first reason is that it works, with only seconds of a delay from what I see on my television.  Other apps I have used in the past would sometimes randomly be delayed a long time or not even work at all.  I also love that you can set your favorite teams and there is a separate tab in the app that shows all of their recent scores and upcoming games. (Yes, apparently my app knows that the next Brewers game is at 3:10pm on April 6 against the St. Louis Cardinals)  The thing that I like the most about this app compared to others is that why it sends a notification with the score, it also tells me how the score happened and the time left on the clock, not just updated numbers.
  3. Sims FreePlay
    Sims App
Back in high school I was slightly obsessed with the Sims games.   They I kind of got over it in college, and eventually I had better things to do than play a computer game.  Well, randomly last weekend I found this game in the app store and I couldn’t believe it was free!  So, I downloaded it, thinking that there was no way it would be as good as I hoped it would be…..and now I’m slightly obsessed again.  It works a bit differently than the Sims that I am used to, but I actually think I like it better!
  4. Michael’s and JoAnn Fabrics
    Michaels AppJoAnn Fabrics App
These two apps are definitely something that every crafter with a smart phone should have.  Michaels and JoAnn’s have coupons pretty much all of the time, and this way they are always right in your pocket and there is no need to make sure you have a printed out version before you go to the store.  They also both have store locators and store hours which can be useful.  The Michaels app has a bunch of other random things as well, but I don’t really use it for anything more than coupons.
  5. Urbanspoon and Yelp
    Urbanspoon App
    Yelp App
Food apps! When I am in a new city (or even sometimes when I am stuck in a rut with my restaurant choices at home) I use these apps a lot.  In Madison, Urbanspoon is pretty much my go-to food deciding app. It seems to work well when there aren’t a huge number of restaurants or the city is generally not too large. (but not too small either.)  When we were in Los Angeles last summer, we tended to use the Yelp app more than Urbanspoon.  More people in that area used Yelp to review, so there were more reviews for anything we were looking for – more reviews = more confident about the rating the restaurant gets.   The downside to Yelp is that it isn’t just restaurants.  So when you search, it is sometimes confusing when you get results – especially in an unfamiliar city.  “Dog Haus” might be a hot dog place, or a pet store.

Ok, so technically that was 7 apps and not 5.  Oh well.  I will also agree with Katy on apps like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, Shazam, and Pandora.  There are lots more that Katy posted that I now want to check out, head over to her post (here) and check it out!  Maybe you’ll find some new favorites!

Do you have a favorite iPhone app?  Please share!

  1. Ahhh I love that you listed the Michaels app! When I worked there we had a corporate announcement about it being released. Back at that time, it hardcore sucked. So I’m glad they got it together and its a good resource for you now!

    • Honestly, I do like the JoAnn app quite a bit more – at least as far as structure – but I definitely enjoy the fact that I always have a coupon in my pocket!

  2. i don’t have an iphone, but i do use urbanspoon, starbucks, and espn on my droid! i second those recommendations!

  3. Craft store apps…. if only I had an iPhone!!! That would be very dangerous since I always forget to bring my coupons and have to go back.

Darth Husband has the Starbucks app. We are a Starbucks household so this really helps.

    • They are SO handy! I hate knowing that I could have a 40% off coupon for the item that I am buying but I forget it….and of course I’m too lazy/impatient to just go back and get the coupon and then go get the item some other time .

  4. […] while back I shared with you Five iPhone Apps I was loving, so now that its been a while (um, whoa apparently its been over a year!) I figured I’d share […]
