Full Disclosure: I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post. The opinions are completely my own.
I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ll say it again: I could eat breakfast foods for every meal. I love me some pancakes, waffles, bagels, and eggs. I know I’ve also said in the past that I’m a bit addicted to buying from Groupon-like sites. This restaurant review is a combination of both of those desires.
A while back, I bought a Groupon for Pancake Cafe in Fitchburg. It was so long ago, in fact, that it was going to expire on December 24. (Yes, that is Christmas eve.) I really wanted to use it, but the week before Christmas is always so crazy and hectic that I knew I really needed to plan and make it work for it to happen. So, on December 23 the husband and I managed to find some time in between shopping, working, wrapping, and baking, to go to dinner. We were in such a rush that I forgot my camera, but luckily my iPhone worked well as a backup.
The dinner menu at Pancake Cafe is different than what they serve for breakfast. They still have some breakfast selections, but they also add in burgers and pizza to the mix. While I am a fan of breakfast all the time, the husband was quite pleased to see the burgers on the menu as a pancake alternative.
For dinner, the husband had the bacon burger with American cheese. Their burgers are a little different because the toppings (aside from the cheese) are actually mixed into the burger patty. The husband said that although the concept was interesting, it didn’t taste as good as it would have with the bacon on top of the burger. He said that some bites were chewy from the bacon, rather than the crispy bacon texture of it sitting on top of a burger.
With his burger he had smothered cheese fries. He said they were pretty good, but they didn’t really seem like anything special.
For my meal I had the buttermilk pancakes. They were delicious. Soft and fluffy, but still with that rich buttermilk taste. YUM.
Overall, the food was good, but not really anything fantastic. However, without the Groupon, the meal would have only cost us just over $15, so I’d say that’s a darn good price to pay for a good meal out of the house.
Taste: A-, good, but not great.
Cost: A+, really reasonably priced, even though the food was not fantastic.
Would I go there again? I think so. Next time, though, I’d like to go during breakfast where there is more options to choose from.
