Kitchen Things: Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer

Full disclosure: I bought this product with my own money and am in no way being compensated for writing this review. The opinions are completely my own.

Ok, so the statement above is not entirely true.  I did not buy this on my own, I got this beautiful mixer as a wedding gift.  Either way, these are my own opinions, and as much as I am about to profess my love for one of my absolute favorite kitchen necessities, Kitchen Aid isn’t giving me any money to write this.

Mixer

My mom had a stand mixer for as long as I can remember baking cookies.  Maybe she didn’t always have one (I’m guessing this is the case) but I can’t remember ever baking without it.  In fact, I use it so much now that I don’t know how I ever baked without one.  Mixing things by hand just isn’t the same.  You don’t get the same smooth texture, your “whipped” mashed potatoes are more just like “stirred” and frosting was never as light and fluffy.

Mixer

If you bake and/or cook.  If you have weak arm muscles (like me), or if you are just plain lazy (like me sometimes too), get a stand mixer.  It will rock your world.  It is so much more fun to bake things when you don’t have to exert so much physical effort when mixing – not to mention that I feel like things get mixed better and more evenly with this as opposed to hand mixing as well.

There are a couple of small things I don’t love about it.

  1. I just wish it was somehow smaller and lighter so it didn’t take up so much space on my counter top!  Although then I’m sure it wouldn’t have the power that it does now, and if it was lighter it would probably slide all over the place while mixing.  Oh well, I’ll make room.
  2. Now that mine is a couple of years old, it has started to squeak if I go a while without using it.  Anyone else have this problem? I’m not sure if it is an issue with the gears on the inside, or maybe I haven’t been cleaning it well enough so it has gotten gunked up?  Although the sound is very annoying when it starts, it goes away after about a minute of use, so its not all that big of an issue.

Overall though, I love my KitchenAid Stand Mixer, and I highly recommend you get one.

  2. I love my Kitchenaid mixer too. And I am also having the same noise problem…sounds like it is grinding when I first start it up…so please let me know if you hear about any regular maintenance of the gears or motor we should be doing to our mixers to make them last longer .

  3. My Kitchenaid and I are in a serious and committed relationship. 🙂

  4. this is so very high up on my list of preferred wedding gifts. and almost everyone who knows me knows that, so I think I have a good chance of getting one. 🙂 I want a red one though! to match my red crockpot! 😀

    • I hope you get one! Honestly, there are things that we registered for and got for wedding gifts that we rarely use, but this one is definitely a keeper!

  5. I have the same exact mixer – same color and all! I love mine, I’ve found it’s most helpful for making light and fluffy frosting. Although I’ll admit, I do still get overjoyed making beating my own frosting by hand – I feel so accomplished!

I have never had squeaking issues with mine… poor little thing probably just has achy joints 😉

  6. I love my mixer too! My mother had never had one, so I didn’t realize what I was missing. I actually felt kind of bad when my mother-in-law bought me one as a bridal shower present because it was so expensive and I wasn’t sure I’d use it. Luckily, she knew what she was doing—I use it all the time and don’t know what I’d do without it. Definitely my favorite kitchen appliance.

  7. […] talked in the past about how much I love my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer. I recommend it all the time to people drafting Wedding registries, it is definitely my most […]
