Restaurant Review: Harvest

Full Disclosure:  I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post.  The opinions are completely my own.

For the first time in however many years that its been happening, I finally got to go to restaurant week!  It seems like every year I hear about restaurant week way to late and then never get around to looking at the menus and making reservations.  Luckily, this year I got on the ball – with some help from other Madison foodie friends – and actually went to two different meals during restaurant week!

First up was a blogger dinner that Holly organized!  I met Holly, Sarah, Kimberly, and Kristie at Harvest for dinner last Wednesday night.   I had never been to Harvest before, but it has been on my list of places that I’ve wanted to try for a while!

Let me just first state the obvious that it was very yellow in the restaurant because of the adorable paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling so my photos are not stellar.  So theres that. On to the foods!

To start, I ordered a glass of Shiraz.

For my first course I had the field greens salad which came with a creamy herb vinaigrette. It was pretty decent sized for a side salad, and was definitely field greens – not just some iceberg mixed with a few pieces of green.   I’m pretty picky with my dressings, but this was actually pretty good!  Some of the greens were a bit bitter, but I’m pretty sure they were supposed to be and I am just not used to eating greens rather than iceberg or romaine.

The meal also came with a delicious warm roll.  I wish there were more than one….or maybe not because then I would most definitely fill up on them and not be able to finish the rest of my meal.

For my entree I had the house-made cavatelli pasta, roasted Winter root vegetables and black truffle butter.  This pasta was so fresh and delicious.  And the truffle butter?!  Oh so delicious.  I couldn’t even tell you what the root vegetables were that I ate, but I ate them, because they were covered in truffle butter.  A couple of the other girls got the chicken, which was my second choice.  They let me try a bit of it and it was delicious too!! In fact, I think I liked it even better than that pasta!  Even just in the little bite that I had I could tell it was juicy and flavorful.

What I love and hate about three course menus is that they are three courses.  I love that you get to try a bunch of different foods, but often with three different courses, you fill up fast.  I tried to pace myself and save room for the dessert course, and somehow I succeeded. For dessert I had the classic turtle cheesecake.  It was very good.  The caramel and chocolate drizzle was not overpoweringly sweet, and I even had some of the caramelized crunchy nuts that it was topped with. It was a delicious ending to a good meal.

Overall the meal and company was good!  Definitely a win for my first restaurant week experience!

Taste: A+, very good and fresh tasting.
Cost:
A…well ok for the restaurant week price of $25 for the three courses it was a great price, but I’m not sure what it would have been normally.

Would I go there again? Yes, I think I’d like to go back when they have their full menu to see what else they have to offer!

  2. mmm, just seeing the pasta and your cheesecake again made me want to re-live it.

    i don’t think i left a single crumb on any of my plates at that meal.
