Organize 2012 – 2/4/12

Remember when I showed you all this super cool de-clutter and organize calendar for 2012?  Well, I’ve started to do it, and I thought I’d turn it in to a bit of a series.  I’m not going to blog about every single task – because honestly, who wants to know that I dusted my cupboards – but I will share the more interesting ones.  The tasks that are fun, new, organization techniques, or that have particularly good before and after photos.

I know it has been a while since I’ve given you an update on my Organize 2012 goal, but I promise I’m still doing it!  Well, most days at least. But even if I don’t feel like doing one of the items on a particular day, I try to at least do SOMETHING to clean and/or organize every day.

Earlier this year,  I was lucky to be selected by the OXO Blogger Outreach program to try out some of their cleaning and organization supplies.  When this opportunity came up it was perfect timing since I had just started my Organize 2012 project!  I was definitely excited.  Not only have I loved other OXO products that I have bought in the past, but I was also glad to have the motivation of using these new products to complete some of my Organize 2012 goals.

Full Disclosure: I received products from the OXO blogger outreach program free of charge but I am not being compensated for this blog post.  The opinions are completely my own.

February 4, 2012 -Empty your fridge and clean it

I don’t honestly know why this task was as hard for me to do as it was.  It wasn’t like there were smelly old rotten foods in the refrigerator, I’m actually pretty good about getting rid of things before they get to that point.  The food removal, and organization was not the hard part.  It was the cleaning that made me dread this day.  You see, for some reason, there is always some kind of something that leaks/spills in our refrigerator.  I don’t know where it comes from, and I don’t ever see any evidence of anything leaking when I throw old things away, but somehow when we go to clean the refrigerator there is always a sticky messy something that takes more than just a spray and wipe to clean.

Fridge Before

You can’t even really see it in the photo, but on the very bottom of the fridge underneath the crisper drawers, there is an orangish red sticky mess.  It kind of resembled sweet and sour sauce and was definitely going to take more than a quick wipe down to get rid of.  The method that ended up working for me was a spray, soak, scrub and wipe cycle.  I sprayed it with cleaner, let it sit for a few minutes, scrubbed it best I could with one of my new OXO scrub brushes, wiped off what came off, and repeated the process several times.  The brush that I used to scrub off this mess was the Corners and Edges Brush and it worked very well!  It was definitely more comfortable to hold onto than many other brushes that I’ve used in the past and definitely stood up to me scrubbing as hard as I could to try to get that goo off of my refrigerator. You can’t even really tell that I’ve used it yet – no gross looking bristles after just one use.

Here is the refrigerator after I cleaned it:

Success! Thanks OXO for giving me some motivation to clean AND for having awesome products! Now I just need to figure out where the heck the sticky mess is coming from……..
