This month was my second time doing the Foodie Penpals exchange, and I’m still loving it! Anyone who knows me knows that I love giving (and buying) gifts for people…..and of course I like getting them myself too!
This month I sent my package to Mellissa my neighbor to the north in Minnesota who blogs at A Fit and Spicy Life. Go check out her blog to see what I sent her this month!
My package came from Amy from A Healthe Eater! Amy is from Ohio, and luckily her package was so good that I’ll forgive her for being a Buckeye 😉
The box was heavy and marked “fragile” so I really didn’t know what to expect opening it. I was a bit concerned that some of the fragile items might be broken since I know people aren’t always super careful handling packages no matter what they say. Luckily, Amy did a good job of packing and everything survived!
The delicious goodies that she sent me included mostly local items from Ohio! Marinara sauce, Barbecue sauce, and chocolates all from Ohio. She also included some of her favorite Ranch Dressing – which I haven’t gotten around to trying yet, but Ranch is my favorite dressing, so I’m sure it will be good!
She also included some of honey which was from the last harvest that her Grandfather did before he was put into Hospice care. What a sweet gift! She included some tea to go with the honey as well – love Tazo tea!
The first thing that I tried from the bunch was the Pretzel Crunch Bar. It was basically calling my name right after I opened the package and I’m surprised that I even lasted a few days without eating it. It was SO good! The pretzel to chocolate ratio was perfect.
A couple of weeks ago we had the marinara sauce on spaghetti and that was delicious too! Definitely fresh and locally made tasting….if that even makes sense.
Those Malley Oh’s that you see in the photo that just look like mysterious chunks of milk chocolate? They are so much more! They are milk chocolate covered OREO’S!! Oh, so delicious! Of course after reading the label again “Malley Oh” does kind of kind of resemble the word Oreo….
(thanks to the husband for the hand modeling 🙂 )
Thanks Amy for an awesome package!!
Are you interested in joining in on the Foodie Penpals fun? Here is what you need to know:
-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. this can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. I’m so glad you liked everything! We seriously have enough honey to last the next 10 years here…not even joking. 🙂
Thanks for sending me such great stuff! 🙂
Amy is so sweet! I sent her my package last month. I’m so jealous of all of this, especially the honey! What an amazing present and I love me some honey!
Did you know that local honey has natural pollen in it from the area where it’s harvested? If you are a bad allergy sufferer – you can have some local honey every day and your body will develop some resistance to that pollen. It can actually make your allergies better! Not sure if allergies are a problem for you in WI, but it’s a big problem here in Texas so I always buy local honey.
I did learn that about honey recently actually! I personally don’t have bad allergies (although I’m sure that probably jinxed it) but we definitely have bad allergy seasons here in Wisconsin as well.
Laura you are too nice! The honey changes in color from the start of summer to the end of summer based on the what flowers the pollen comes from too! It’s so amazing.
It changes color depending on the flowers the pollen comes from?! How cool!
oh wow – that honey is such a sweet thing to include in the package. 🙂 and those chocolate covered oreos look pretty amazing!
They are SO good.
i love that she sends that honey. so cute. and now i’m craving chocolate covered oreos!
