Restaurant Review: Bucks Pizza

Full Disclosure:  I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post.  The opinions are completely my own.

I’m a fan of pizza.  There aren’t many toppings that I will eat, but I’ve learned that it is pretty easy to pick around or pick off almost any topping.  (I try not to make it hard for people to get what they want when we order as a group.)  Generally when ordering for myself I just eat plain cheese pizza, but my absolute favorite is a pizza that California Pizza Kitchen used to make with rosemary chicken, potatoes and a light garlic and olive oil sauce. SO good.

As far as the type of pizza goes, I’m much more picky.  I’ve had a few bad experiences with a couple of pizza chains that shall not be named and will no longer eat them.  Luckily, Madison has some great local pizza to offer as well!  Extra bonus: there are three local pizza places within a few miles of my house.  I’ve only actually been to two of three, and generally we go to the same one pretty much every time.  It is the closest to our house, and super delicious, so why mess with a good thing? Well, you all know that I’m a sucker for group deals.  When a group deal for Bucks Pizza came along I couldn’t resist.  It is one of the three near me, and while I have been there before I don’t go there often.  A coupon is always something that edges me to try something again.  Also, the husband really likes it…maybe more than the place we normally choose.

Did you know that for most group deals (like Groupon) the amount that you pay for the deal never expires? Its true!  Even if you forget about your deal until after the expiration date you should still be able to use the amount that you paid for it.  Even though that is generally about half of what the coupon is worth, its still something.  I put that to the test with this meal since somehow I managed not to use it until the weekend AFTER the deal expired!

Bucks Pizza

One of the things that I like about Bucks’ pizza is the super thin crust.  No other place that I know of makes as thin of a crust. The thing I like most about the thin crust is the crispy edge pieces.  The pieces towards the center tend to be a bit softer, but the crunchy side pieces are the best! If you are confused about how there can be “center pieces” it is because Bucks cuts their pizza into small squares rather than the typical triangle slices.

Bucks Pizza

My half is cheese, the husband’s half is sausage.

This time, the pizza actually wasn’t as crispy as I remember.  The edges were definitely still crispy, but the inner pieces definitely were not as good as I remember. I also tend to thing that in general this pizza is greasier than others that we have.  That might just be an illusion though since the crust is thinner the grease from the cheese has nowhere to soak into like it would on a thicker crust.

Taste: B+, I remember liking it more in the past, but it wasn’t bad this time . Just not as crispy as I like my thin crust.
Cost: A, a 14″ (large) plain cheese pizza is $10.  I’d say that is pretty reasonable.

Would I go there again?  I’m not sure. It is a change from my normal pizza routine, but I don’t think I like it better than what I usually get.
