Last year when I started running I went on the hunt for a headband that would stay in place and that I wouldn’t have to keep adjusting or messing with while I was running. Honestly, I didn’t look too hard because I haven’t had much luck with headbands that fit my head in the past . When I was younger and playing soccer I think I tried just about every kind and ended up finding that a piece of pre-wrap (this) cut to the right size was my best option. Nothing stayed on my head.
I ended up getting lucky last summer though because I came across TWO different kinds that ended up working well for me. One of those was Bondi Bands. They stay on my head and keep my hair completely out of my face. I ended up getting two different versions of the wicking headband and one of the fashion headband. The fashion headband I was really excited about because it was cute enough to be worn outside of working out without people looking at me like I have a sweatband on my head. Unfortunately the material that the fashion version is made out of is much more slippery than the wicking material and didn’t stay on my head well at all. But considering I was pretty sure I wouldn’t have luck with anything, 2 out of 3 wasn’t so bad.
After a long while of use, it seemed like my Bondi Bands were stretching out. I was sad, but figured that was just what would happen after lots of use. Then my lovely Twitter friends clued me in to the fact that they will probably shrink a bit if I wash them. Then a lightbulb went off in my head. Why had I not been washing them just like I was all of the rest of my workout clothes?! And then I felt like a smelly fool for not doing that. I promptly threw them all in the wash, and the problem was solved – clean, just-like-new Bondi Bands!

The other kind of headbands that I found were BIC bands. I believe I first found them on one of my favorite blogs, Carrots N’ Cake, last summer. One of the things that drew me to try BIC bands was the fact that they give a portion of each sale to charity! Each month their charity changes, and this month they are giving $1 from each band sold to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America! These are a much different style than the Bondi Bands. They are more fashion and less sporty. However even though they are more fashionable doesn’t mean that they are less functional! These miraculously don’t slip off of my head either! I was super excited to find a headband that I felt like I could wear every day (and to exercise in too, of course) that wasn’t going to fall off of my head every three seconds. I got the solid black thin band and the silver sparkle thin band.
A couple months ago I noticed that the same thing happened with these that had happened with my Bondi Bands – they stretched out. I was super sad because I not only wear these for running and yoga, but I actually wear them quite a lot on normal days! I just figured that the elastic can only stay stretchy for so long so maybe a year with a lot of use was their limit. Then the nice people at BIC Bands reached out to me on Twitter, and offered to help me with my problem. (Full Disclosure: I was sent some free headbands, but I am not being paid to write this post. These are completely my own opinions.) As it turns out, the headbands should not have stretched in that short of time. They suggested I might need custom sized bands – I had no idea they even offered these! Since the bands are handmade you can get them in whatever size you need! So they had me measure my head and, sure enough, I needed the 21 inch bands rather than the standard 20 inch. I got two new bands in the mail and couldn’t have been happier. They seemed a bit looser than the other bands to start with so I was afraid they weren’t going to stay put as well, but they did! I could tell though that since they were not so tight they wouldn’t stretch out either! One of the new bands that I got was the black sparkle Minnie Band. (I’m wearing it in the photo above) It is a bit thinner than the thin bands that I had before and I LOVE it. I love the size, and the black sparkle adds a little without being over the top blingy. BIC Bands come in all different colors/patterns/sparkle and a few different thicknesses as well. They just came out with Big Bling Bands as well as new spring colors which I am dying to try!
Think you would like to try BIC Bands? Or maybe you’ve tried them already and love them as much as I do! Either way, you’re in luck. The nice people at BIC Bands want to give a $25 gift certificate to one of my readers so that you can try them too!

I’ve wanted to try the Bic bands for a while, but have been making due with hats/visors because I don’t like spending extra money on things that might not work, plus I usually run outside where wearing a hat doesn’t look that weird :).
When I was a kid I loved playing basketball. I even dreamed of being a professional player one day, but my height kinda squelched that one!
i have a problem w/ most sweat headbands falling off my head too – i use bondi bands but have heard good things about bic bands!
we were a softball family when i was little. my parents played in a co-ed bar league and my sister and i were signed up for our local softball team as young as they would take us – i think i was 5?!
Hey Kelly! I’ve been dying to try both headbands but never wanted to pay the price…so a gift card is right up my alley! I didn’t play very many sports as a kid–T-ball and softball, then volleyball and basketball in middle school. I liked softball best, I think. I’m a huge baseball fan now, too, and I can’t wait to introduce our children to America’s pastime. 🙂 Hope you have a great day, lady!
I am the same way, i always look for a good headband when I run. It is so necessary.
When I was a kid, my favorite activity was just plain old playing outside with my sister. we would pretend we lived in the woods and would ‘rock climb’. Imaginations were key!
I played softball as a kid, and loved it! And still do!

I always loved running as a kid. It was the one thing that set me free, and i never find headbands that don’t slip either.
I’m super excited about these now that I know they work. Doesn’t hurt that they come in so many sparkly colors! I’m always looking for a headband to wear to work, but they never stay. Pre-wrap is the only thing that will stay, but it’s not really the look I’m going for at work! I’ll wait until Tuesday to see if I win, but then I’m ordering! Thanks for the great find…..
Oh. And dance does count as a sport. 🙂
Hi Kelly, my favorite sport as a kid was softball but rollerskating was a close second! Bic Bands are great at keeping hair out of my face and I love the sparkly ones too:)

When I was a kid I loved playing Ico Hockey (still do!) and would have loved headbands to keep the hair off my face. It’s really annoying to readjust your hair under your helmet.
As a kid (or young teen in middle school), I loved playing basketball. Part of the reason I got into running was so I could condition myself to play… alas, I kind of fell in love with being on the track team and went with it.
I was a swimmer as a kid which thankfully eliminated the need for headbands since I have similar issues with headbands.
I have played field hockey since i was like 5! My mom played growing up and in college and then coached so I was literally surrounded by the sport growing up! and I still love it
