Full Disclosure: I paid for these treats with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post. The opinions are completely my own.
When I was in Los Angeles last summer, the husband always was talking about Beard Papas. They are all over the place out there, and are a pretty popular dessert. The husband had them with some of the people from his work, but for some reason I didn’t feel the need to try them. (Probably because I had eaten more than my share of FroYo and Cupcakes already.)
When we were in Chicago last weekend there happened to be a Beard Papas there too! The husband wanted to stop and get one so I thought I’d give them a try. I’m not generally a fan of cream puffs, which is what they are similar to, but they seemed interesting and different so I thought I’d go for it.
The husband had a cookie crunch puff with original filling, and I had an orignal with strawberries and cream filling. Just as I suspected, I didn’t love it. The pastry and the filling didn’t taste bad, especially together, but there was just too much filling in it for my liking. I realize that is what it is supposed to be like, its just not something that I enjoy.
Taste: B-, it wasn’t the flavor that I didn’t like, the ratio of pastry to filling just wasn’t right for me.
Cost: B+, I don’t remember them being all that expensive, but since I didn’t love them it still probably wasn’t worth it for me.
Would I go there again? I don’t think so. Cream puffs just aren’t my ideal dessert.
