Full disclosure: I bought this product with my own money and am in no way being compensated for writing this review. The opinions are completely my own.
I’m kind of a sucker for neat kitchen gadgets. I am willing to try pretty much anything to make my job in the kitchen easier. It seems like these days there is a specialty gadget for everything – avocado slicers, pomegranate de-seeder, seafood scissors, etc. One of my favorite kitchen gadgets, and something that I’ve been using for a while (and sadly don’t really know what I’d do without at this point) is the Hard Boiled Egg Timer.
You put this little gadget in the water with the eggs and it turns from red to black once it gets hot. As you can see in the photo, there are varying degrees of hardness that you can gauge since it changes color from the outside in to the middle in an egg shape.Personally, I cook them until it is pretty much entirely black – I’m not a fan at all of runny egg yolks which is one of the reasons why I don’t feel comfortable cooking hard boiled eggs without this thing!
This thing of course doesn’t solve all of my problems. I still have to remember that I have boiling water on the stove with the possibility of boiling over…it happens almost every time because I get too engrossed in the internet and forget about it…Oops!
Hard boiled eggs are a great nutritious snack for me to bring to work and are so much less intimidating to make with this thing. Anything that makes me more likely to make them on a regular basis is a good thing!
Oh, and I know the smell of eggs is not the nicest thing to bring into a work environment but luckily there isn’t really anyone else in my office and I try to eat and dispose of them as quickly as possible so the smell doesn’t linger!
Do you have a trick to make perfect hard boiled eggs?
I’ve seen posts about baking them in a cupcake tin for them to come out perfectly – has anyone tried this??

I’m a big fan of 1) bring to rolling, big bubble boil; 2) take off heat and let sit covered 15 min. Always hard cooked, not as much worry re: boiling over. This gadget does look handy tho, I’ve never heard of it.
this is the method i use too! then add cold water right after the 15 minutes to cook the eggs quickly & evenly so the yolks don’t turn colors!
I want this!!! Where did you find it?
I think I got this one at Crate and Barrel, but I’ve seen them at Bed Bath and Beyond too!
