The Blogging Community {and a Giveaway!}

When I first started blogging, I had no idea how long it would last.  I started on a whim, and I could have stopped just as easily.  I had no idea that I would grow to love it so much!  Why do I love it? There are many reasons.  One of the biggest reasons why I love blogging, and why I continue to blog, is the blogging community.

I had only been reading blogs for a few months.  I’m not sure what exactly made me decide to start blogging in the first place, but I think it might have something to do with meeting a few bloggers at a little gathering in Madison the summer before I started.  Heather, Julie, and Ashley were the first bloggers that I ever met.  While I was quite nervous to go and meet them, I came home from the meeting excited and happy that I went.  They had not met each other before that weekend either, but they had what seemed like an instant connection through blogging.

A few weeks after that, I started this little blog, Brownies and Zucchini.  I wasn’t sure what it would come to be, or if I would even continue blogging for more than a few weeks, but I started it anyways.  I told myself that I would post at least once a week, and that was all, no pressure.  I actually ended up posting about three times a week in the beginning and that worked well for me. It was hard not to feel like I should be blogging more, but considering that I really had no expectations for what my blog would be it was usually easy for me to convince myself that it wasn’t worth it to stress myself out about it.

Shortly after that, on a whim, I bought a ticket to the Healthy Living Summit that was being held in Chicago.  This really was out of the blue.  I had just started blogging, and really had no idea what to expect.  The only people that I had met before that would be there were Julie and Heather.  I went back and forth with that being super exciting, and it scaring the crap out of me.  What was I thinking going to a giant blogger meet up when I would only know 2 people?! That is so not something that I do.  There were other bloggers that would be there whose blogs I had been reading, and even though I had interacted with them on the internet I had never met them in person before.  I was definitely intimidated.

The time in between when I bought the ticket and the actual Summit I went back and forth between being very excited and crazy nervous about 100 times.  I think that the only thing that was keeping me from totally backing out was the money that I had paid for the ticket – I definitely didn’t want it to go to waste!  I also knew that if  I was ever going to go to one of these things this would be the one since it was so close I could drive!

Then the weekend came and I went to the Summit. It was a whirlwind.  There were many sessions that had interesting topics, and of course lots of great swag, but the one thing that really hit home with me was the community.  All of these bloggers were there to support each other.  Some had met many times before, some had never met.  I was definitely intimidated when the weekend started, but I left with some great new friends and a new outlook on what blogging could be.

This feeling has not only continued but has gotten stronger since that first Summit.  Since then I’ve been to two other Healthy Living Summit’s, as well as other blogger meet-ups here in Madison, and while I was visiting New York.  Each time my love for my existing blogger friends grows, and I meet new friends.  One of the most awesome things about this community is the relationships that form. We relate to each other, help each other, and have each other to lean on when times get tough.  Even though we are many, many, miles away from each other, the internet (and social media) brings us together on a regular basis.

So why am I blabbering on about how much I love the blogging community today? Well, I have a pretty awesome giveaway for you! Have you heard of HealthyLivingBlogs.com?  (go click over and check it out if you haven’t, I’ll be here waiting!) Healthy Living Blogs is a website dedicated to the blogging community.  Over on HLB they not only have an amazing directory to help you can find healthy living bloggers in your area, but they do a lot more.  On Thursdays they share blogging tips from members of the community, on Wednesdays they host a recipe link-up, and every Friday they feature a different healthy living blogger  for you to get to know. Oh, and they were also a big part of the most recent Healthy Living Summit!

I am a huge fan of this site as a community resource, and it has grown so much since it started back in 2010!  Heather – the woman behind HLB , and a good friend of mine- is passionate about the blogging community and does everything she can to find ways to make it a better place and bring people together.  No matter if you’ve been blogging for four months or four years, or even if you are just a blog reader, there is something on HLB for everyone!  Recently, I was asked to become a bigger part of Healthy Living Blogs…and I accepted!  I am officially a part of team HLB! I am so excited for the future of this fabulous site, and I know you all will be too!  (Don’t worry, my blog will not change at all.  You may just see me over on HLB from time to time too!)

    I love blogging because it’s a great forum for connecting with like-minded people around the world and facilitates learning from one another.

  3. My best friends (from all around the globe) I have made through blogging – whether I have met them face to face or not doesn’t matter! I know there are always people to talk to and who have my back…and I am just incredibly lucky to have travelled extensively and always had a new friend to meet up with for coffee and to chat and while away the hours with.

    I love blogging for the amazing friendships it has brought me.

  5. I love blogging because it’s an opportunity to connect with myself and with others. It’s so gratifying to know that the struggles I am deal with are so relatable with others as well. Blogging is a way to process what’s going on underneath the surface, and a way to reach out and get support. Blessings.

  6. I love blogigng (particularly healthy living blogging) because it’s given me the chance to meet people who care about the same things I do. I don’t hang out with people in my “real” life who are as devoted to healthy eating and exercise as I am, so it’s been so amazing to meet people who do!

    Now, why do I love blogging? I love to write and I love to share my life with other people. I am currently on an amazing journey to a healthier life and have found so much support and inspiration in the blogging community. I am hoping to be able to meet up with some fellow bloggers in person in 2013 and have big plans to grow my blog and move to a self-hosted site in the coming months. I am still fairly new to blogging, but I love it and intend to contine to grow and develop as a blogger.

  13. I love blogging because it lead to the opportunity for me and you to become friends!! 🙂

  14. Wow – what an awesome opportunity. I love the HLB community! Ever since joining it’s been nothing but amazing.

  17. Congratulations on becoming a part of the HLB team!! I could totally relate to everything you said. I just started my blog at the end of May, and as soon as I heard about this past HLS , I immediately signed up. And then afterwards I was like,”WHAT da HECK did I just do?!? Not only that, I decided to room with 3 other girls! Yup! I was super excited one min and totally freaked out the next. It turned out to be one of the best weekends of this year! Not only were my roomies, 2 Danielle and Mindy, so amazing, everyone I met were so friendly and just down to earth! I felt right at home. My lil’ space on the web does not even compare to all the lovely blogs out there, but it makes me happy. It encourages me to be more adventurous, confident, positive, and just love on people. It keeps me real ;). And if I had known that a blogging community can be this encouraging and amazing, I would’ve joined LONG time ago!
