Project Life Week 1! {Dec 30, 2012 – Jan 5, 2013}

I started my Project Life book this week!   I have been wanting to start doing this for a while now after reading about it every week on Sarah and Elise’s blogs (and after I got a bunch of supplies for Christmas) I finally decided to bite the bullet and just do it.  No time like the beginning of a new year to start a new project!

If you are not familiar with Project Life, it is a simplified way of scrapbooking that uses pre-formatted pages and pieces, with room for your own details.  I keep many little things like movie tickets, hotel keys, cards, and other trinkets so I’m hoping this process will give me an outlet to put those to use rather than just throwing them all in a box “to scrapbook later.”

As far as the documentation is concerned, my plan for this is to do a weekly post to share my pages with you, and of course to keep me accountable. I really like looking at the layouts that other people do, so I hope you enjoy my posts about it as well.  I’m hoping to post on every Sunday.

For more information about Project Life go here.

Here is my 2013 intro page. (cover page? I don’t know what you call it)

The cards in this layout (and generally what I’ll be using throughout the year) are from my Turquoise Core Kit, quote cards from Elise Blaha, and this one also includes some specific intro to 2013 cards that I found here.  There are a LOT of free printables out there if you search for them!  I’ll be sure to link to the ones I use if I remember where I got them.

Now for the first full week spread!

This week includes a trip to Milwaukee for a Christmas celebration, a New Year’s Eve celebration, watching the Badgers (on TV) play in the Rose Bowl, watching the Packers (on TV) play for the wildcard spot in the playoffs, and going to see Les Miserables in the theater!

(click to enlarge.  Yes, some things are blurred out on purpose)

One thing that I learned this week….well I already knew, but it was confirmed…I strongly dislike my handwriting.  Its just not pretty.  I have a feeling I’ll be trying to type things out as much as I can without spending too much extra time.

The left page is our trip to Milwaukee and New Year’s Eve.

Some details.

Yes, those are Cookie Dough Egg Rolls. Yes, they were delicious. There is also a sad Badger loss on that page, but I’d rather not talk about that.

The right page is a bunch of random things including seeing Les Miserables, a nosy cat, and a Packer game that we won – yay! And yes, there are some things blurred out for privacy reasons, that may happen occasionally.

Some details

In case you can’t read it, the photo on the left with Miss Kitty is illustrating how she likes to be a part of the Project Life action any time I work on it. She always sits either on the chair with me or on a part of the desk that I am not using.

Probably the most frustrating thing about doing this was photographing the two page spread!  Definitely not something that I was expecting considering this definitely is not my  first time using a camera.  Hopefully in the near future I’ll figure out the best way to photograph it and there will be clearer photographs of the whole spread.  So frustrating.

Week one complete!  I love it, and I managed to do a little bit each day and get it all done AND blogged about by today (Sunday). Success.

  1. whee!! happy first week of project life. 🙂

your album looks great! i love that you documented the badgers & packers games.

photographing the layouts is not fun – i agree. what i’ve found works best for me: take pictures in natural light in front of a window with album on the floor, use my tripod set up with the camera directly above the album, use my stock lens that came with my camera, i use the 2 second timer when i actually snap the photos so they aren’t blurry, and then i crop the pictures in lightroom afterwards.

    • I figured I should document these football games because they were important ones – I don’t think I’d document every single game, at least not using up that much space.

I could not believe how hard it was to take a photo that wasn’t blurry or had glare! I’ll definitely have to try the self timer trick next time.

  2. […] a week ago, kelly asked me to put together a post with my favorite supplies that i use on my project life pages […]

  3. This looks like a ton of fun. I look forward to seeing more of these posts.
