One of the things that keeps me motivated to run – especially when the weather is less than desirable – is music. I’ve always loved an eclectic mix of music, and running is no exception. I love switching from classic rock, to rap, to pop to country. It keeps my run interesting and me entertained. It also distracts me from actually thinking about the fact that I am running, which is pretty important too.
Here are some of my favorites. Please note: I don’t really take pace into consideration, and there is really no order to them at all at this point. If the song is fun and upbeat and I like it, it gets put on the list. I try to change up my music pretty regularly otherwise I get sick of songs quickly and end up skipping through things while I’m running, which definitely does messes up my running rhythm.
Speaking of running.
I ran for the first time this “Spring” (it is in quotes because while the calendar says it is Spring, the weather doesn’t quite agree) on Wednesday. It was not a good run. I am attempting to learn to pace myself more consistently so that I don’t burn out after a mile, and that was my first run doing that. I forced myself to run in steady intervals (5 min run, 1 min walk) rather just going on and off when I felt like it. Obviously it is something I need to get used to because I was not feeling it at all. I felt so slow the entire time, yet still tired at the end. The end being 2.2 miles. Blech.
If all runs were good, there wouldn’t be any room for improvement though, right? That’s what I’m trying to tell myself at least.
This is awesome, Kelly!! I’m working on a new playlist myself. I have to go YouTube some of these now…
I’m actually hosting a spring playlist link-up on my blog this Thursday, too. You should swing by and join up! There’s some info at the end of this post: http://www.myhealthynest.com/top-easter-moment-new-favorite-hang-out-a-mile-trial-and-a-special-announcement/
Any official race plans for the year? 🙂 I’m THIS CLOSE to signing up for the Twilight 10K. You in? 🙂
Ah, yay, I will definitely link up on Thursday!!
Right now I am signed up for the Color Me Rad 5k and The Color Run 5k. Then hopefully a 10K at Disney World in January 🙂
I’ll do the Twilight 10K if you do! (Though you are about a billion times faster than me)
Yay, thanks for linking up!
I’m a huge sucker for Glee covers, too, and definitely have at least one on my main running mix. 🙂 I like that Skyfall song too.
So we’re on for the Twilight? Did you sign up?? 🙂
PS Don’t be discouraged by a tough first run! That’s to be expected, right? Good for you for getting out there! (I have yet to do an outdoor run this “spring”, ha…)
So funny to see we picked a few of the same songs/artists. 🙂 I like your taste. following you!
