Twosday {Social}

I feel like it has been forever since I’ve written a Twosday post.  I’m not sure why, because they are one of my favorite kinds of posts to write! Today’s Twosday post focuses on some of my social media loves….and I could go on and on about how much I love social media, so you are lucky that I only get two answers for each section 🙂

Hashtags that I’m using most often on Twitter and Instagram:
1) #make1healthydecision – this hashtag was started by Heather in an effort to concentrate on small healthy victories throughout the day. (and it works so well with her blog tagline “make one healthy decision, now make another.”) I love this hashtag because it celebrates the small victories that may seem so simple to some people!
2) #supersummer – this hashtag is used in conjunction with the Super Summer Challenge that is being hosted by Cassie and Krissie.  Its focus is having (and keeping) a healthy mind and body throughout the summer.  I loved that it incorporated more than just working out or healthy eating and I’m super excited to earn lots of points this summer.  The other thing that I really enjoy about this challenge is that the competition is really with yourself.  While there is a community of people supporting you and encouraging you to make healthy choices, it really is YOU who is earning the points towards your own goals. Two forms of social media that I don’t quite understand:
1) LinkedIn.  Maybe this is because I’m not in the “professional”  business world so I don’t feel the need to use it? The SITSGirls recently wrote a post about using it to boost your brand, and that made me think I should consider using it….anyone use it and care to explain it to me?
2) Vine.  I just. I don’t know.  I have an account.  I watch other people’s videos (vines?), but I just am not sure.  I’ve seen some really creative and clever posts, but it just seems like so much more work than just posting a photo or even recording a regular video.  Anyone on Vine and love it? Convince me!

Favorite forms of social media:
1) Twitter. Definitely my most frequented social media platform.  I love that it makes me feel so connected to my blog friends and favorite brands even though they are many miles away, and I may not have ever met them in person.  I get so much encouragement and inspiration from others on Twitter, too.  When I am sitting on the couch procrastinating and then read tweets about others running, or even more so people who wish they could run but for whatever reason can’t, usually gives me a big push to get out the door.
2) Instagram. Oh how I love photos.  Yes, my instagram feed is probably 75% photos of my pets, and about another 20% food, but I like it that way.  And I like seeing other people’s pets, and food, and vacation photos, and adorable kids, too.  Especially for those friends that I have on Instagram that are not bloggers, it is fun to see a little glimpse of their life through photos!


(side note: Someone please make me those beer battered tofu fingers for dinner.  They look pretty amazing.)

Ways I subscribe to blog posts:
1) Feedly.  (RIP Google Reader!) I really like it and find that it is organized well and  easy to sort through all of my various folders of blogs.
2) Google +. I know that there are many was to use G+, but I mainly use it as another blog post alert system.  I have various groups in my account, and I have it set up so that some of them send me an email when that person posts to G+. Of course this only works if the person posts their new blogs to their account, so I subscribe accordingly.  It works out well because most of the blogs that I subscribe to in G+ are different from those that I subscribe to in Feedly!

  1. I don’t get LinkedIn either, and I am in the “professional” business world!

    I do know a few people that have used it successfully to get job interviews/ get hooked up with recruiters so maybe I would use it more frequently if I were seeking employment?

    • Yeah, that is the only thing that I know about it is that you can put your resume on there when you are looking for jobs. ….I also know that if someone sends you a friend request (or whatever they call them) it will keep emailing you at least once a week for a LONG time asking you to be their friend…

  2. I’m with you on a lot of this! I like twitter, althought facebook is still my favorite. I don’t get Google +, or rather haven’t found time or a reason to start using it correctly. I have my linked in to let people know when I post a new blog, but I don’t spend any time on there. And I absolutely don’t get vine. I barely use youtube so I really don’t see the point.

    • I don’t really use Google + all that much, other than just getting those alerts when certain people post. I can only spend a lot of time on one or two social media outlets, otherwise I drive myself crazy trying to keep up with everything!

  3. I love instagram too and my photos are at least 75% of my dog! I need to start using Google+, but I am very unfamiliar with it!

    • Hooray for dog Instagram photos!! 🙂

      Google + isn’t all that hard to figure out once you look into using it, but I find it hard to keep adding every new social media outlet! At some point I have to sacrifice some things for my sanity. 🙂

  4. I’ve never even heard of Vine!! Gahhh, when will they stop coming out with new things…. 🙂

    I’m surprised to hear that you use Google+. I feel like G+ is some chore I should be doing but just don’t care to. How do your Feedly and G+ lists differ? Interesting to use two different platforms to divide things up. I feel like my blog subscriptions are overwhelming/out of control no matter what I do. 🙂

    Love that supersummer challenge! I just saw it on Heather’s blog the other day. Awesome that they’re incorporating both mind and body.

    • I use Feedly for the blogs that I read every day – G+, not so much.

      And once I friend people on G+ (or whatever they want to call it) and put them in a group, I automatically get an email when they post everything, so really I don’t have to do anything with it. The people I follow on G+ are a lot of food/recipe bloggers, and just some other randoms that I’ve found post frequently on G+ but I don’t read them often enough to have them overwhelming my Feedly!

      I try to post my own posts on G+, but I don’t always remember.
