Twosday {Foodie}

Food brands from the #HLS13 swag bag that I love:
1) Wild Harvest Organic.  Times 100.  It was SO great to have them back as Gold Sponsor!!  I love the quality, variety, AND price point of their products.  Added bonus: Wild Harvest products are sold at my local grocery store!
2) Sargento.  Cheese. Need I say more?

Two more…because how do I pick just two?! (It was hard to pick just four!)
1) Musselman’s Applesauce.  I am in love with the new Big Cup. I love their applesauce as it is, and the larger portion size makes it more substantial to eat as a snack, or as part of a meal.
2) Traditional Medicinals.  I’ve been a fan of some of their teas for a while, but I recently have grown to love the Chamomile Lavender. I’m not a huge chamomile fan, but this is just so relaxing and it feels very spa-like.


Foods I’ve tried recently that I did NOT love:
1) Annie’s Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese (Frozen).  1) it takes an hour to bake in the oven, which is a bit more than I am willing to wait for a frozen meal.  2) It just didn’t taste good.  It wasn’t really cheesy tasting, and it was kind of gritty (I’m assuming from the butternut squash?)  I am a fan of other butternut squash mac and cheese, but not a fan of this version.
2) Kashi Soft and Chewy Berry Muffin bars.  I suppose in an emergency they would be better than nothing, but they are just not good.  They are really grainy and dry, and the flavor is just somehow off.  I had super high hopes for these, but unfortunately they are not something that will be in the regular rotation.

Non-food items that I’ve been using often in the kitchen:
1) Ninja Ultima Blender.  A HUGE Thank you to the nice people at Ninja for not only giving the new Ninja Ultima Blender away to the #HLS13 planning team members, but also to so many other attendees through giveaways at the event!  If you follow any of those other people who got this blender, I’m sure you’ve heard already how awesome it is.  I just used mine for the first time a couple of days ago and it is just as amazing as I was hoping.  Not only does it blend quickly, but my smoothie was the most perfect consistency.   I will definitely be putting it to use more often – and I can’t wait to use it for dips and things, too!
2) Reusable K-Cup.  So…confession time.  I’m a bit of a Starbucks addict.  I normally go there every day before work, and often also on the weekends.  Recently I’ve been trying to cut back on spending money on unnecessary things, and make more time in the morning, so I’ve been brewing my own coffee at home and taking it to work with me.  I started doing it one day with no real goal in mind but doing it that day, and I’ve now been bringing my own coffee to work most days of the week for the past three weeks.  The reusable K-Cup really has made this possible because if I was buying single serve K-Cup packs, I don’t really feel like I would be saving that much money by making my coffee at home. I know there are many different reusable K-Cups out there (and I actually have more than one) but I highly recommend the Solofill Cup, Refillable Cup (affiliate link).  Other versions you have to put in a particular direction or else they will get a hole punched in them from the K-Cup mechanism.  (Yes, I learned that from experience) My sleepy morning self prefers the Solofill cup because the whole bottom (where the machine would be punching through) is open so there is no chance of putting it in the wrong way and ruining it.

Recent restaurant favorites:
1) Cheese curds at Craftsman Table and Tap. I dare you to go there and find a table that isn’t ordering these. New Glarus Fat Tire Ale-battered Carr Valley cheese.  They may be the greasiest food that I eat, but that gooey cheese and perfectly crispy breading is pretty amazing.
2) I am still thinking about that tomato basil soup from The Local in Minneapolis.  I think it might be time I recreate it.  …with the help of the Ninja blender perhaps?

  2. Umm… Now I’m totally craving cheese curds before 10am. Also, I totally agree on the swag bag items. I seriously love Wild Harvest!

    • Hahaha sorry! Next time you are in Madison though, definitely go to Craftsman for cheese curds. They are my favorite!

  3. OMG. I 100% campaign regularly to anyone who will listen that the Craftsman has the absolute best cheese curds in Dane County (and I’ve tried a lot of cheese curds!).
