Project Life 2014 {Week 1}

**some of the link in this post are affiliate links.  I get a small incentive  if you buy through my link but  if you don’t want to use my link, that’s cool too. I’m not being otherwise compensated for posting any of the links or products.

Well, here we are in a whole new year!  I’m pretty excited about doing Project Life again this year, and it is partially because I already have so many great tools and supplies that are new for 2014!  (The other part is because I just plain love doing it, and love having actual printed photos and documentation of the year.)  I am using a cloth 12 X 12 Cloth Album in Rain (teal) (and I’m sure I’ll have to get another binder halfway through the year again) and the Jade Core Kit.

Other than those two major items, I have a few other things that are going to make my Project Life spreads more interesting and fun!  For Christmas I got a subscription to the monthly Studio Calico Project Life kits!  I’ve been wanting this for a loooong time so I am so excited to get it this year. I got my first one in December actually, and I am super happy and impressed with everything that comes in it.  Along those same lines, I got an awesome Christmas gift from Heather of 12 envelopes to open (one for each month) with Project Life things in them.  Such a fun idea, it is like a whole year of gifts!  Those fun things combined with the core kit, and lots of fun free printables that are always all over the internet (Definitely follow One Velvet Morning if you are looking for free printables!) are sure to make some great spreads.

Thanks to everyone who weighed in about whether or not I should blog my layouts this year or not.  I will be blogging them, since at least some of you seem to enjoy seeing them, but I’m going to try to add more about the products that I use and things that I do so that it is at least a little more interesting for me to write.  I’m going to try to be better about explaining where I get things, and techniques that I use this year, but also feel free to ask if you are curious about something!

On to the first layout of the year!

Well.  What a busy week this was!

We celebrated New Year’s Eve with some friends of ours.  We have been going over to their house for dinner and drinks for the past few years. One of their birthday is on January 1st, so we always celebrate the new year and then a birthday.   This year the celebration included a delicious meal of steak, crab legs, baked potatoes, salad, and copycat Red Lobster biscuits.  Then later we had champagne and cupcakes from Cupcakes-A-Go-Go for the birthday celebration. It was a laid back evening, but a great one.

The Sunday after Christmas/before New Year’s Eve we went down to Milwaukee for Christmas and dinner with the husband’s grandma and family.  We happened to be eating at a pub that had the Packer game on that Sunday so it was a pretty fun atmosphere to watch the crazy last few minutes of that game.

I also got a couple of fun things in the mail this week. (Full disclosure: I received these things for free, and am not being compensated for posting about them, nor am I required to post about them.  As always the opinions are completely my own.)  A package from Ricola that I received as a Klout perk, and a the nice people at Greatist sent me a sample of their new subscription box Parcel.  I was seriously impressed with the quality, quantity, and variety of items in the box!  Not that I need another thing to subscribe to, but I do think it is worth the $20 per month for some fun new snacks and things each month.

The last big thing of the week was dinner with two good friends at Bluephies.  It was wonderful and just what I needed after a long week.  We started with a round of drinks (I don’t remember the name, but it was delicious and involved raspberry, honey, and champagne.) and I had the Fresh Smoked Mozzarella Tortellini (minus the peppers) and some cookie dough egg rolls for dessert. All delicious per usual for Bluephies.

– Road Trip card, Lovely Evening Card, pink card with days of the week are from the Studio Calico December 2013 kit.

Roller Date Stamp Amy Tangerine Today is the what I used on the date card.

Whew, that was a long post!

  1. yay for the studio calico subscription!!! 🙂

    i had one for the first 6 months of last year, but i ended up cancelling it. there was no way i could use up all of the supplies each month & i felt like i had too many to justify getting more each month. i’m tempted to re-subscribe for the one or for a different pl kit this year.

    • I am a little bit worried that I will end up with a ton of stuff, but I’m hoping that knowing I will be getting new things every month will keep me from buying more random scrapbooking things on my own!
