Week 2!

While we didn’t actually leave for Disney World until the Wednesday of this week, but what is in the book is 95% from our trip to Disney.  Which I’m totally fine with, and how it should be when there is a vacation. Speaking of vacation, shout out to Megan Biller with Glass Slipper Concierge who helped us plan our vacation!  She is super knowledgable about everything Disney has to offer and it was very helpful to have her as a resource for decision making.

The days before we left for vacation though, were less than desirable weather wise so it was a good time to head south!

We stayed at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and I would definitely recommend it!  It is on the monorail and a really calm and relaxing place to be at the end of the day when you are done dealing with the sometimes crazy Disney park crowds.  Added bonus: you can actually see the Magic Kingdom fireworks show from the beach of the hotel!

Random pro tip about dining at Disney World – if you are like me and don’t like a large meal for lunch, choose the kids meal! Many of them are similar to adult meals, just smaller portions.  Also, with the kids meal you get two sides.  There are several choices for sides including french fries, applesauce, grapes, carrots, and more.  The kids meal is a healthier choice, and a more cost effective one as it is generally less expensive than any adult lunch meal.  My particular favorite is the grilled cheese with fries and some kind of fruit.

On our trip, we got to try MyMagic+ and the new Magic Bands.  I was a bit skeptical about how well these would actually work since they are a new concept, but they were actually really cool.  They are your room key, fastpass, credit card, and more.  It was really handy not to have to dig in pockets for various things all of the time, not to mention just a cool way to use technology in the parks.

Our first meal of the trip was at the Kona Cafe.  Not my favorite place we ate, but not bad, and super convenient as it is located inside of the hotel that we stayed at.

One of the fun new things that we discovered during this trip was the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card game.  It is basically just a game that uses cards (and fun technology) to fight different villains on special screens throughout the Magic Kingdom.  It was a fun way to wonder the park and still seem like you are having a productive day.

The second full day at Disney was the 10k!

Also on this page are some random Mickey shaped foods that we ate.  Including my beloved Mickey pretzel.

The night of the race we had dinner at Ohana.  A fun meal, and TONS of food.

The next dinner we ate was at the Crystal Palace, a buffet where we got to meet Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore.

One of my favorite souvenirs from the trip is a note that Eeyore wrote us.  Apparently he is a big fan of Parks and Recreations, too! 🙂 (The husband was wearing a Pawnee Harvest Festival tee shirt that day)

That is the end of Disney for this week, but it continues next week, so stay tuned!
