This post is inspired by Jessica over at How Sweet It Is. Every so often she posts about her favorite things. Day to day, she blogs mainly about (delicious) food and recipes, but these posts often include many other categories of things – music, places, makeup, etc. I love that she mixes it up every once in a while and puts together these posts, so I thought I would give it a try too. I’m hoping to continue to do them monthly, but we will see where it goes.
Please note: I know very little about fashion and beauty, and by no means call myself an expert on any of these topics, especially in the fashion and makeup realm. These are just some of my favorites that I wanted to blog about them to spread the love.
—————————
Nail Polish – I got Zoya Dot in my February ipsy bag and I am loving it! I’m not a big pink person, but this light pink color is great for a more neutral spring color.
Make Up – Eye Shadow Primer. Normal people who wear makeup all the time probably would think it is ridiculous that I just found out about this wonderful product. It seriously makes eyeshadow look sow much nicer, and last so much longer. I am currently using Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.
Clothing – Since Winter refuses to quit, layers are the name of the game. I’m currently a big fan of boots, skinny jeans, and a fancyish but also super comfy top.
Food – Hershey’s Kisses. (Full Disclosure: I got a bag of them for free in my Influenster Vox Box. I am not being compensated in any way and the opinion is completely my own.) I love having them as a snack/dessert at night. I especially love that they are individually wrapped so I can eat a few at once but I have to take the time to unwrap and think about eating each one, rather than just grabbing a handful of candy. I’ve always been a milk chocolate lover, and while I have grown to love darker and fancier chocolates too, Hershey’s milk chocolate will always be a delicious comforting treat for me.
Beverage – Coffee. I’ve been good about making coffee at home in the mornings and bringing it to work (love my Keurig!), but I’ve also been getting afternoon coffees pretty frequently too. My morning coffee is always just straight black coffee, but afternoons are peppermint lattes. Even when I was snowed in at Heather’s a couple of weeks ago, I had a delicious afternoon latte courtesy of her Mr Coffee Latte machine. So good, especially since apparently the weather refuses to get warmer.
Music – I’ve been listening to a 90’s radio station a lot recently, and loving all of the old music favorites that are coming back in my life. One album in particular that I’m loving is Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill. 90’s angsty teen classic, right? Almost every song on that album is awesome.
TV – Grey’s Anatomy. I recently started watching Grey’s from the beginning for the first time…because I am apparently one of the only people my age who has never seen it. I have heard that it changes quite a bit over time, but I am currently about midway through season two and am loving it.
Movie – Well, I haven’t seen a movie in the theater in a while (there are many on my list) so I realize this pick may be out of date, but I think the last movie that I really enjoyed watching was Monster’s University. (on DVD) I am a huge fan of most Pixar movies, and this one definitely did not disappoint. And honestly, Monster’s Inc. wasn’t my favorite when I first saw it, but after seeing it again, and seeing Monster’s University, those characters are some of my favorites. The characters in the new movie are especially interesting and creative.
Mindless Entertainment – Tiny Tower. If you aren’t familiar with this mobile game, you probably shouldn’t go look at it because I am afraid you will get as addicted as I am. Basically you are building a city, but all of the different apartments and stores exist in one tower. You have to build things and buy things and tell people to do things. I like it because it is pretty mindless, but if you wanted to spend time playing it for a while you could do that too.
What are YOU Loving these days?

I also got the influenster voxbox, and could not agree more! I have been enjoying those kisses, but I have mine throughout the day as a pick me up while I am working! I am also loving Trader Joe’s Chai Tea Latte mix! Love it to wake me up in the morning!
Using them as a treat throughout the day is a good idea too!
I just watched Monsters University over the weekend…loved it!
Isn’t it super cute!? I mean, I love pretty much all Pixar movies, but MU was definitely a fun one.
are you still Plate Sharing your afternoon coffees?
also – let’s talk about quality of nail polish, shall we? What are your three favorite brands? I mean.. obviously, we all love Essie… and i know you like your julep boxes…. but others?
I have not been Plate Sharing my afternoon coffees recently…maybe I need to start doing that again so this doesn’t get so out of control.
So, my top three “fancy” brands are probably Essie, Zoya, and Julep. Of note though: Julep’s normal price is something ridiculous like $14 each, and I never pay that much since I buy them through the Maven program. It is usually about $8. Also, I don’t know that I’ve ever actually bought Zoya polish, just gotten it in various monthly boxes.
I actually have also had good luck with Sally Hansen Insta Dry and Extreme Wear too – especially considering they are a lot less expensive than those others.
Just to jump in here…I’m a little iffy on the ingredients list (because I haven’t looked into it), but I find that the Orly polishes are pretty great and I love their Bonder product. The Bonder makes my polish last so much longer.
I know a lot of people that like Orly, too!
Bonder is now on my must-find list! Thanks, Em!
Looks like we’re on the same wavelength: my sister just started selling Mary Kay and so she’s been giving me an education in makeup. I haven’t bought an eyeshadow primer yet, but it may only be a matter of time. Playing with makeup is fun!
Someone brought a bag of Hershey Kisses to my Mary Kay party and we are thoroughly enjoying them around here. I think I forgot how great they are…if only I thought I could make from scratch on my own…
It is fun, isn’t it?! I kind of enjoy learning about makeup as an adult rather than a teenager because I feel like I’m making better decisions and learning things instead of just feeling like I should be wearing makeup because everyone else does.
And if you figure out how to make Hershey’s Kisses from scratch then send some my way!!
