Foods I Don’t Like

Often times when I am explaining my blog (or even just the fact that I’m a picky eater) to people, the first question that they ask me is: “what things don’t you like?” And then I answer their question with some things that most people are ridiculous but yes, things I do not like. And here are my top three food dislikes, in no particular order.

 foods

Bacon.

Yes, bacon.  And no, it isn’t because I don’t eat meat either.  I just really don’t like the taste of it, or (even more so really) the smell.  When it is made at a family brunch, or on occasion when the husband makes it at home, I have to leave the room because I can’t stand it.  The only time I can tolerate the flavor in small (tiny) amounts is on baked potato skins.

Peanut Butter.

Yep, the other thing that most people can’t live without.  No, I’m not allergic to peanuts, I just don’t like it.   Or even the smell of it.  I feed it to Olive sometimes, but that is the closest that I get to it.  I’ve tried almond butter and while I don’t hate it as much, I still don’t like it.  Maybe it is a texture thing? The only time (as far as I remember) that I’ve ever eaten it was in middle school Spanish class when we had to demonstrate how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in Spanish.  In front of the class.  It was not a fun time….and my sandwich was mostly jelly, with a dab of the required peanut butter.

Hamburger.

Ground hamburger, and hamburger patties. This one I do think is mostly a texture issue, since I do like steak and other forms of beef.  This also may be the one that people are the most surprised about because it seems like such a normal thing that everyone eats in some form or another at some point in their life.  I’m just thankful that most places that serve hamburgers also serve chicken sandwiches.

What is something that YOU don’t like that people would be surprised to find out?

  1. I’m a vegetarian who doesn’t like mushrooms or avocado. I think those are pretty much vegetarian-required items. Oh well. I don’t care. 😉

    • I don’t really like avocado either, and I only like mushrooms if they are raw, like on a salad. 🙂

  2. I don’t like bacon either. I can cook with (though I have found a vegan bacon olive oil) but do not like the texture. I also don’t like hamburgers or beef in general!

    • Interesting, I never though of the texture of bacon being an issue. I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like it!

  3. I can’t stand meat loaf!

  4. I don’t normally dislike hamburgers, but I absolutely do when pregnant.

I don’t like shrimp, or any seafood actually, which drives my husband a little crazy. I also really dislike mayo. And the list could go on…

    • Pregnancy food diversions are so strange and interesting!

I do like seafood, quite a bit actually, but I wouldn’t go near it until I was in my 20’s. Definitely don’t like mayo either. I feel like we should make a list and compare our dislikes, I bet there are a lot of similar things! Hahah

  5. I can totally understand why you don’t like those foods! Bacon has a strong smell and so does peanut butter. Ground beef can also be a bit sketchy too! My nephew doesn’t like peanut butter, and I didn’t find out until after I made him a PB&J sandwich!

    • That peanut butter and jelly sandwich situation happened to me several times growing up! People just didn’t understand why I didn’t like it!

  6. OMG those 3 things make me so sad. Honestly, I would eat all 3 of those at the same time. Yum!

    • My husband would eat all three of those things at once, too. And that is generally what he does when I am out of town. 🙂
