Full disclosure: I paid for these donuts with my own money and am not being compensated for this post. As always, the opinions are completely my own.
Am I the only one who always hunts down a dessert at least once while on vacation? I’m pretty sure I’m not. Sometimes when I go to Chicago, I have a list of dessert options, some old and some new. This time – since I didn’t really know when I would be where – I didn’t have anywhere in particular in mind. Luckily, a new dessert option happened to be right around the corner from my hotel: Firecakes Donuts.
Though the shop is tiny, there were several options to choose from. (Though its worth noting: right after we came in there was a line out the door so I have a feeling there is a quick turnover during the busier times of day) I got a box full and took some back with me for the husband.
I kind of like that the donuts are all different shapes and sizes. (of note: the old fashioned donut on the right is “normal” donut size) The selection includes Valrhona Chocolate Iced, Honey Glazed, Peanut Butter Cup, Strawberry Marscarpone, and Old Fashioned Buttermilk. I tried the chocolate and the old fashioned and they were both delicious!
Taste: A, delicious donuts and interesting combinations of flavors.
Cost: A, I don’t remember exactly how much they cost, but I don’t remember it being unreasonable.
Would I go there again? Yes, I think so. Although, since there are several other dessert options in the area I don’t know that I would wait in line for a long time.
