Healthy Snacking with Musselman’s {Giveaway}

Full Disclosure:  I was sent some goodies from Musselman’s in exchange for posting about their products.  They are also supplying the prize for the giveaway winner.  I am not being otherwise compensated for this post and, as always, the opinions are completely my own.

Applesauce has pretty much been a constant in my snacking routine. Though the variety has changed over the years (I now definitely prefer the unsweetened variety, and Musselman’s seriously has the best texture and flavor that I’ve found) and it isn’t always eaten out of those little plastic cups anymore, it is one of the healthy foods that I’ve always enjoyed.  Other than eating it plain, though, applesauce is a wonderful way to healthify other dishes as well.

A few weeks ago Musselman’s sent me a package with some of their applesauce as well as some recipes and tricks for making healthy swaps! One of my favorite things that was in the package was this great guide for proportions for applesauce substitution in various baking mixes and recipes.

I’ve seen some mixes list applesauce as a substitution for oil, but it is usually in a little blurb on the side of the box that is easy to miss.  With this handy chart, you can substitute applesauce in whatever recipe you are making! The nice people at Musselman’s even made a printable version for me to share with you! Click on the image below to get the full printable PDF.

I will admit I was a bit skeptical about substituting applesauce for oil at first, it just doesn’t seem like the same type of ingredient! But now, after doing it several times, I do the substitution whenever I can.  I also tend to look specifically for recipes that use applesauce instead of oil to start with.  In quick breads and muffins especially, it makes them so much more moist!

When I don’t have time to bake, plenty of Musselman’s Big Cups get eaten as a snack.  I have a stash for when I’m home, and also when I’m at work.  I just love the larger size – it makes it feel like a little more of an “adult” snack.

Are you an applesauce fan?  Well, you’re in luck! Musselman’s is giving away a pack of Musselman’s Big Cups and a set of recipe cards to one lovely reader! Enter through the Rafflecopter Widget below! Giveaway ends Friday October 24, and I will draw a winner on October 25th.  If the winner does not reply to my email within 48 hours I will draw a new winner.

  1. Yogurt. There is this photo of me, about 4 years old, bleach blonde hair, guarding a tub of margarine and a cup of Yoplait custard-style yogurt. Who’s from Wisconsin? THIS girl! #dairyforlife

    • Yeah I think it says something about the dairy culture of Wisconsin when I still grew up on delicious dairy product even though my Mom is lactose intolerant. #allofthemilkandcheese
