Full Disclosure: I paid for this product with my own money and am not being compensated for this post. As always, all of the opinions are completely my own.
I love breakfast foods, and could eat them for every meal. Pancakes especially are one of those things that always seem so warm and comforting – especially in this cold blustery weather! Growing up, we always used Bisquick mix for pancakes. In an effort to step outside the box a bit, I’ve tried some homemade pancake recipes, but always seem to go back to the box. There is something about pancakes that I feel like should be as easy as possible, not the (sometimes) big production of making pancakes from scratch. (also, I am not super precise at measuring, so often times things don’t come out perfectly.) None of the from scratch recipes that I have tried really ever lived up to the Bisquick recipe – especially for the additional time and effort it takes – so back to the box I went.
I had seen Kodiak Cakes mixes around on blogs for a while, but it was just recently that I actually picked up a box. I was actually pretty surprised to see they had them at Target! It was one of those days that we were at the grocery store totally in a food rut looking for meals. The husband isn’t the biggest fan of the Bisquick recipe, so we decided to pick up a box and give them a try. I will admit that I was a bit skeptical because you only add water to the mix, but I still thought I’d give it a try.
I have to say that I was impressed, they were delicious! (especially for a just add water mix) The flavor was definitely different than the Bisquick recipe that I was used to, but in a good way. They seem more hearty – likely because of the whole grain flour – and there is a little bit of sweetness to them which gives them a little different flavor.
Taste: A, really tasty.
Cost: A-, I don’t remember exactly how much they were, but I know they were about mid-range as far as boxed pancake mix goes. More expensive than the Bisquick, but not so expensive that it seemed ridiculous for a box of pancake mix.
Would I buy it again? Absolutely. I have and I’m sure I will again. I also really like that you can find it at Target!
