Restaurant Review: MACS

Full Disclosure: I paid for this meal with my own money and am not being compensated in any way for this post.  As always the opinions are completely my own.

It’s no secret that I love macaroni and cheese.   It was a staple in my diet as a kid, and that hasn’t changed.  As I have grown up, and my tastes have changed a bit, I have gotten a bit more adventurous than just the blue box.  Sometimes I add veggies (like this butternut squash mac) and in general, I am a bigger fan of the baked version than the stovetop version. (like this Chobani Mac and Cheese that we still make a couple of times a month.)  So When I heard about MACS opening up in the area I was excited – a whole restaurant dedicated to macaroni and cheese! The only reason why I haven’t made it there sooner is because it is on the complete opposite side of town.  Fortunately, we were over on that side of town last weekend, so we decided to check it out for lunch.

For my meal I got the Original Mac, which is just mozzarella and cheddar.  Sometimes the really creamy mac and cheese that restaurants have is too rich for me, so I wasn’t sure that I would love this, but it was really tasty!  It was creamy, and cheesy, and had a kind of crunchy melted cheese on the top.

The husband came with me to lunch, and he got the Memphis Mac which is provolone, mozzarella, pulled pork, and barbecue sauce.  He enjoyed his as well.

We both got the regular size portion, (maybe it is called original? I can’t remember) and we were kind of concerned that it wouldn’t be enough food.  While the portion size looks small, it was really rich and filling enough for a lunch.  I think I would get the larger size if I was looking for a dinner sized portion, but I’m not actually sure I would finish it all.

The meals are all served in hot skillets.  While I think this adds a nice touch, and the crispy cheese from the skillet was one of my favorite parts, I kind of feel like it a little bit of a safety issue if they were served to kids.  And they were actually very hot too, not like some places that caution you of a hot plate but it really is just kind of warm.  They do have a separate kids menu, so maybe those aren’t served in the hot skillets?

Taste: A, rich, but really tasty!
Cost: A, I belive the total for the two of us was around $15, which is not bad at all for two people!

Would I go there again? Yes, I would.  I wish they would open one on my side of town!
