Full Disclosure: I paid for this meal with my own money and am not being compensated for this post in any way. All of the opinions are completely my own.
While we were downtown last weekend, we ate at the food carts on the square for lunch. There were several to choose from (it was during the Farmer’s Market) but I immediately gravitated towards Melted. (FYI – the link is to their Facebook page because I couldn’t find a website) I’m sure this is no surprise to anyone that has been reading this blog for more than a minute.
Melted has several different versions of grilled cheese sandwiches. They have a little bit of everything – the classic cheddar cheese sandwich, a sandwich on a doughnut, jalapeño ranch, and everything in between. (For the record, yes, the husband almost got the sandwich that is on a doughnut, but they were out of bacon.)
For lunch, I chose the American Caprese – extra sharp cheddar cheese, cream cheese, sundried tomato puree, and fresh parmesan basil pesto on a sweet wheat bread. It also came with a little dollop of tomato soup.
It was pretty tasty! I liked all of the flavors that were in it, but at some points it was too many different flavors. If there would’ve been a bit less of each topping on it, I think I would’ve like it better. I never would’ve thought to put cream cheese on a sandwich, but it was pretty great. The little bit of tomato soup to dip in was a really great addition, too!
Taste: A-, almost really good, but not quite perfect.
Cost: A-, it was $8, which isn’t too bad for that hefty of a sandwich, but I guess I expected a little bit less from a food cart.
Would I go there again? Yes, I would like to go there again sometime and give it another chance. Because really bread and cheese can’t lose.

A Grilled Cheese truck sounds like heaven!!
Ever since I heard that food trucks existed, I’ve wanted a grilled cheese truck in Madison. I <3 grilled cheese!
Oooh, I haven’t heard of Melted! I agree- $8 is a little much for food carts in my opinion, but I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for this one. My all time fave food cart is Buraka on Library Mall!
I’m always up for a good grilled cheese!
Me too! ! <3 grilled cheese!
I think it is pretty new, and it may only be on the square during on Saturdays during the Farmer’s Market. Hopefully it gains popularity and is around more!
Mmmmm…. good to know! I have yet to see them around (I think they’re new this spring?). I will definitely be on the look out now.
Yes, I believe they are new this Spring. I think they have been at Taste of Madison in years past, but not anything more regular. Hope you find them – there have so many unique sandwiches!
